Today was a day to make banana bread. My youngest always eats it as if it were the last banana bread that will ever be made. So today was a day to make banana bread.
Henry did all the work. He measured, cracked eggs, wiped his hands on his apron, mashed bananas and scooped it all in to the bread pan. Tah dah!
Then it was time to clean up...no problem. Today the stars aligned and he stood up on the stool, waited for the sink to fill and started washing the dishes. Until...
Forgetting for a moment that my boy is indeed 7 and not the 12 years that his size might suggest, I let him wash my old pyrex bowl. My old, HEAVY, pyrex bowl. And it fell. And it shattered.
I quickly grabbed Henry from his perch and made sure he was not cut. He wasn't but he felt so bad for the accident. For which I assured him that it was just that – an accident.
So the lesson for today is...heavy bowls need to be washed by mom. And light, plastic bowls need to be used to make banana bread. Consider it learned.
On the plus side? Henry makes a mean banana bread. And we are eating it like it is the last banana bread that will ever be made.

to pack or not to pack...a lunch
Every year on or about August 1 I start thinking about my kids and what they eat at school. Every year, I promise myself that I'm going to make them healthy lunches. That I'm going to by a reusable lunch system and make them lunches that are good for them and looks cute and all that. Like this,
or this.
But every year, I fail. Well, not so much fail as I just have them eat the icky school lunches. This year my kids want me to try again. And I think I will. Too bad I have such picky eaters. Although I think that if I were to make pb & j look like a pretty pinwheel my youngest just might eat it. Here's hoping. Wish me luck.
or this.
Both can be found at www.parenting.com. So I hope that I haven't broken any laws about using other peoples photos without linking.

I'm still around and some very nice press
Haven't been around for awhile. Mainly because I've been busy trying to sell a book. And going to TNNA in Columbus, OH. Having a blast, I might add!!
I don't have any photos from either but I do have a little yarn goodness that I took today for the Yarnery...but I'm going to share it here as well!
And if you are interested in reading some nice things about our book, Wearwithall, check out what Clara Parkes said about us... or the great interview with Theresa Gaffey by Kristin Nichols...or what Knitty had to say! Scroll down, we are towards the end, but such lovely things were said that it's worth the scroll. Thanks to everyone who says nice things!
